How to Care for a Fleece Jacket: Keep It Soft and Pill-Free

Fleece is one of the most comfortable fabrics ever invented — lightweight, warm, and soft. It's also one of the fastest to pill. Within a few washes, most fleece jackets develop bobbles around the arms, collar, and anywhere friction occurs. Here's how to keep yours looking good for years.

How to wash a fleece jacket

• Machine wash on a gentle/delicate cycle at 30°C maximum
• Turn inside out — protects the outer surface from friction against the drum
• Wash separately from cotton — cotton lint sticks to fleece fibres and is very hard to remove
• Use a small amount of liquid detergent — powder can clog fleece fibres
• Avoid fabric softener — it coats fleece fibres and reduces their breathability
• Low spin speed — high spin distorts the fleece texture

How to dry fleece

• Air dry where possible — hang on a clothes airer away from direct heat
• Tumble dry on low heat only — high heat melts synthetic fleece fibres permanently
• Never iron fleece — direct heat ruins the texture instantly

How to remove pilling from fleece
